CVE-2026-74682

Kernel memory corruption via undersized capture URBs

Published Aug 22, 2026 · Updated Aug 22, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux ALSA USB audio capture allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory through Type II devices. data_ep_set_params() sizes each inbound URB buffer before adding the delimiter packet, while prepare_inbound_urb() describes the larger packet count and places the final frame beyond the allocation. Triggering requires a Type II capture device and a userspace hw_params request; testing demonstrated a KASAN-detected overwrite, not code execution.
