CVE-2026-74677

System crash via rearmed carrier work

Published Aug 22, 2026 · Updated Aug 22, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux ipheth USB network driver allows local users with root access to crash the system during device teardown. A failed in-flight transmit URB lets ipheth_sndbulk_callback rearm carrier_work after ipheth_close drains it, so later work dereferences the freed network-device memory. Exploitation requires control of an attached USB device, a stalled bulk transfer, link shutdown, unplugging, and root privileges; no privilege-boundary crossing or exploit primitive is reported.
