CVE-2026-74648

Kernel crash via truncated monitor-mode frame

Published Aug 22, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Out-of-bounds reads in the rtl8723bs Wi-Fi driver in Linux allow local users to crash the kernel via a truncated monitor-mode frame. rtw_cfg80211_monitor_if_xmit_entry removes the radiotap header, then reads frame control and pulls calculated 802.11, QoS, and SNAP headers without confirming that the skb still contains them. Reachability requires local low-privileged access to a monitor-mode rtl8723bs transmit path; resulting reads can disclose kernel memory or interrupt service.
