Kernel code execution via SMB interface use-after-free
Published Aug 22, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux SMB client in affected Linux kernels allows remote attackers to crash or execute code via SMB3 multichannel traffic. In cifs_try_adding_channels(), a failed channel addition drops the temporary interface reference before incrementing iface->weight_fulfilled, so a concurrent list refresh can free the object before that write. An SMB3 multichannel session with an attacker-controlled or compromised server must exist; exploitation can corrupt kernel memory or panic the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
