Subscriber-to-Administrator takeover via reaction endpoint authorization bypass
Published May 30, 2026 · Updated May 30, 2026
Authorization bypass in Simple History 5.26.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to take over administrator accounts. The event reaction endpoints use get_items_permissions_check, which checks only for a logged-in user, then expose event context containing password-reset keys without the per-logger authorization enforced by Log_Query. Subscriber-level access and the non-default experimental-features option are required; a reset key from a newly triggered administrator event enables account takeover.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
