CVE-2026-74580

Host memory access via stale vring metadata

Published Aug 21, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in Linux vhost allows local users to read or corrupt host memory through live vring reconfiguration. The vq->meta_iotlb cache is not cleared when VHOST_SET_VRING_ADDR or VHOST_SET_VRING_NUM changes a live vring, so stale mappings bypass deferred validation and feed unchecked copy operations. Exploitation requires control of a vhost device owner with a device IOTLB attached; successful access can disclose or corrupt VMM memory or interrupt a virtual machine.
