Kernel crash via fan-read divide by zero

Divide-by-zero in the adt7470 hardware-monitoring driver in affected Linux builds starting at 5.15 allows local users to crash the kernel. The fan-speed read path validates a cached fan period, rereads the concurrently updated value, and passes zero to FAN_PERIOD_TO_RPM as a divisor. The adt7470 driver and compatible hardware must be present, and the reported consequence is limited to service interruption.
