CVE-2026-74460

Kernel crash via malformed USB CPC messages

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the Linux kernel ems_usb driver allows local users to crash the system via malformed USB CPC messages. ems_usb_read_bulk_callback() trusted each message's declared length and dispatched undersized type-specific payloads to CAN, state, error, and overrun handlers. Reachability requires the ems_usb driver and a CPC-USB/ARM7 interface able to supply malformed receive data; published assessments disagree on whether physical access is required.
