CVE-2026-74437

System hang via uvcvideo workqueue self-deadlock

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Deadlock in the Linux kernel uvcvideo module 6.16 allows local users to hang the system through an asynchronous UVC control event. From async_ctrl.work, uvc_status_stop calls cancel_work_sync on the executing uvc_ctrl_status_event_work, which waits for itself to finish. Reachability requires a UVC camera with an asynchronous control, and successful triggering stops system-wide task progress.
