Local resource exhaustion via released-call reference leak
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Resource leak in Linux kernel RxRPC allows local users to exhaust kernel resources by peeking released calls with recvmsg(). In rxrpc_recvmsg(), the already-released-call path fails to drop its held call reference when MSG_PEEK is set. A local process must use an AF_RXRPC socket and MSG_PEEK; the public record identifies retained references but no crash, reboot, or privilege gain.
