CVE-2026-74412

Kernel memory corruption via mistyped AER driver data

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Type confusion in Linux 6.17 rtw88 PCI AER handlers allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory during error recovery. The io_error_detected and io_resume callbacks retrieve an ieee80211_hw pointer as net_device, so detach and attach operations read and write wrong structure offsets. Reachability requires an affected rtw88 PCI device and an AER recovery event; the published record does not establish code execution.
