System panic via wrapping Wi-Fi scan index
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Denial of service in Linux kernel 6.4 and later allows attackers to trigger a system panic during 6 GHz Wi-Fi scanning. In rtw89_hw_scan_add_chan_ax, an 8-bit scan index wraps while it is compared with a larger 6 GHz parameter count, so the loop fails to terminate. Reachability requires an rtw89 Wi-Fi device and a 6 GHz scan; the resulting soft lockup stalls a CPU for more than 20 seconds and ends in panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
