Local system crash via unterminated EVM buffer
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel EVM allows local users to crash the system by reading the evm_xattrs interface. The evm_read_xattrs() function leaves temp[0] uninitialized when its fill loop writes no attributes, then strlen() scans beyond initialized memory. Low-privileged local access is required, and the affected state requires that no configured EVM extended attributes are enabled.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
