Kernel use-after-free via stale SysEx pointer
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
A use-after-free in the Linux kernel ALSA OSS sequencer allows local users to read freed memory through a SysEx event race. A pending event retains data.ext.ptr after snd_seq_oss_midi_check_exit_port releases the port resources, and snd_seq_event_dup later copies from that stale pointer. Reaching the flaw requires access to an OSS sequencer device and a concurrent port close before dispatch; the reported result is a KASAN-detected kernel memory violation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
