Local memory corruption via undersized BPF_PROG_QUERY buffer
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel 6.17.0 through 6.18.39 and 6.19.0 through 7.1.4 allows local users to corrupt memory via BPF_PROG_QUERY. The cgroup query path unconditionally copies the late query.revision field to userspace without checking the caller-supplied bpf_attr size, writing beyond legacy 40-byte buffers. Exploitation requires a local low-privileged account able to issue the query and results in memory corruption that interrupts system availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
