Service interruption via agent-name path traversal

Published Aug 18, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026

Path traversal in agent enrollment in Wazuh manager before 4.14.6 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via crafted agent names. The OS_IsValidName() check in src/addagent/validate.c accepts leading-dot and dot-sequence names, and delete_diff() later concatenates that untrusted name into a queue path so ".." resolves outside the intended diff directory and deletes parent queue subdirectories. Reachability requires access to the enrollment port and subsequent deletion of the malicious agent by an administrator; the result is a manager outage that requires manual recovery.
