Arbitrary file read via unbounded media paths
Published Apr 29, 2026 · Updated Apr 29, 2026
Path traversal in the WeCom adapter in Nous Research Hermes Agent 0.8.0 allows remote attackers to read local files via outbound media URLs. The _load_outbound_media function resolves file:// and relative paths, then calls read_bytes without verifying that the resolved path stays under an allowed directory. A WeCom message must trigger an outbound media attachment; exploitation exposes any file readable by the Hermes process.
