Arbitrary file write via unsanitized topic path
Published Apr 29, 2026 · Updated Apr 29, 2026
Path traversal in ezequiroga mcp-bases allows remote attackers to write papers_info.json files outside the intended papers directory. The search_papers tool lowercases topic and replaces spaces, then passes the untrusted value to os.path.join and os.makedirs without canonicalization or a containment check. Any untrusted caller able to invoke the MCP tool can use ../ traversal to create directories and write or overwrite papers_info.json wherever the server account has permission.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
