Scope escalation via unscoped HTTP Signature authentication
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Authorization bypass in Gitea 1.26.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to exceed API token scopes via HTTP Signature. HTTPSign.Verify() authenticates an enrolled SSH key without assigning ApiTokenScope, and tokenRequiresScopes() skips enforcement when that scope is absent. Exploitation requires a write:user token and permission to manage SSH keys; resulting data access and changes remain limited by the account's normal role and repository permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
