Arbitrary command execution via unblocked clone templates
Published Aug 13, 2026 · Updated Aug 13, 2026
Command injection in GitPython before 3.1.54 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary OS commands during repository clones. The unsafe_git_clone_options denylist omits --template, so Git copies an attacker-selected template's hooks and runs post-checkout. Exploitation requires control of clone options and an attacker-readable directory containing an executable hook.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
