Prototype pollution via inherited schema path lookup

Prototype pollution in affected Mongoose releases allows remote attackers to alter process-wide object behavior through crafted updates. Schema.prototype.path and _getPathType accept inherited proto entries from schema.paths and schema.nested during update casting, which writes $fullPath and $parentSchemaDocArray onto Object.prototype before an exception. Exposure requires an application to pass attacker-controlled update data into Mongoose; successful exploitation changes properties on newly created objects and can disrupt application integrity and availability.
