Sandboxed code execution via codec use-after-free
Published Apr 28, 2026 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Use-after-free in Google Chrome Codecs before 147.0.7727.138 allows remote attackers to execute code in the sandbox via crafted HTML. Google identifies the affected component and memory-lifetime error, but the restricted Chromium issue does not disclose the codec object, function, or stale-reference operation that triggers freed-memory access. Opening or rendering attacker-controlled HTML is required; successful exploitation gains code execution inside Chrome's browser sandbox, with no demonstrated sandbox escape.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
