CVE-2026-73411Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Home-directory disclosure via unescaped assignment tilde

Published Aug 12, 2026 · Updated Aug 12, 2026

Improper escaping in Eric Cornelissen Shescape's Dash helper before 2.1.14 and in 3.0.0 allows attackers to disclose the home-directory path. getEscapeFunction in src/internal/unix/dash.js leaves a tilde unescaped after a colon or equals sign, so Dash expands it in an assignment value. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled input to reach escape or escapeAll and be interpolated into a command-prefixed assignment under Dash; it exposes the home path and can redirect the command's operating location.
