CVE-2026-73327Network attack vector

Rejected assignment for update archive extraction

Published Aug 12, 2026 · Updated Aug 12, 2026

The CVE record covering Joomla! CMS 6.1.1 was rejected after the assigning CNA acknowledged that the assignment was made in error. The underlying hardening proposal adds archive-path validation to extract.php, whose mkdir() and fopen() calls use ZIP entry names without checking for absolute paths or parent-directory segments. Joomla states that update extraction requires Super User access, which already permits code execution through supported upload workflows, so the project does not classify the behavior as a security issue.
