Unbounded memory allocation via checksum upload quota bypass

Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026

Unbounded reads in Gitea 1.27.2 and earlier allow remote authenticated users to allocate server memory via Maven checksum uploads. The Maven UploadPackageFile handler buffers the checksum request body without a read limit and returns after digest comparison before enforcing package-size quotas. Maven package write access is required; the allocation is client-controlled, but a practical outage was not demonstrated.
