CVE-2026-73248Public exploit

Code execution via recursive template policy bypass

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026

Code injection in calibre before 9.12.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary Python code when a malicious e-book is opened or imported. The template() formatter re-evaluates composite_template metadata without inheriting allow_python_templates=False, so nested python: input reaches compile_python_template. Opening or importing the crafted file is the required gate; successful exploitation runs with the privileges of the calibre process.
