Authenticated WebSocket persistence via stale session mapping
Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Insufficient session expiration in Apache Tomcat allows remote authenticated users to keep a WebSocket open after its HTTP session ends. Tomcat retains the socket under its original HTTP session identifier but fails to update that association when the authenticated session ID changes, so later expiration does not locate and close the socket. Exploitation requires an authenticated WebSocket to span the ID change and session termination, preserving only the application access already carried by that connection.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
