Unauthenticated video takeover via missing host authorization
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
Authorization bypass in PeerTube before 8.2.2 allows remote attackers to take over federated videos through ActivityPub Update messages. The processUpdateActivity and processUpdateVideo paths accept a signed Video Update without confirming that the signing actor and video identifier share an authorized host. A malicious federated server needs no target account and can rewrite stored metadata, visibility, media files, and HLS URLs for videos federated from other servers.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
