CVE-2026-73074

Heap overwrite via wrapped text-property count

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026

Heap buffer overflow in Vim before 9.2.0841 allows context-dependent attackers to corrupt memory via excessive text properties. In prop_add_one() in src/textprop.c, adding a 65,536th property wraps the uint16_t count to zero, allocates no space for property records, and then copies 65,535 existing records past the heap allocation. Exploitation requires a textprop-enabled build and a user-run script or plugin driven by crafted input; the usual result is a crash, while the attacker-influenced write can enable further exploitation.
