CVE-2026-73072

Heap out-of-bounds write via stale soundfold index

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026

Heap-based buffer overflow in Vim before 9.2.0846 allows context-dependent attackers to corrupt heap memory through a crafted spell file. set_sofo() reuses sl_sal_first[] after set_sal_first() leaves negative entries, under-counting mapping lists and writing attacker-influenced characters past the allocation. Exploitation requires a spell-and-multibyte build, placement of the file in a searched spell directory, and victim selection through 'spelllang'; a crash is demonstrated, while further effects are unproven.
