Home-directory disclosure via unescaped BusyBox tilde
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Improper escaping in Shescape before 2.1.15 and 3.0.0 through 3.0.1 allows attackers to disclose a home-directory path via a tilde payload. The BusyBox getEscapeFunction in src/internal/unix/busybox.js recognizes tildes only at line starts or after whitespace, so escape and escapeAll leave a tilde expandable after a colon or equals sign. Exploitation requires untrusted input in an assignment prefixed to a command, an explicitly selected sh shell, and /bin/sh resolving to BusyBox; expansion can redirect the command's operating location.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
