CVE-2026-73036

Terminal control injection via unfiltered prompt metadata

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026

Terminal escape injection in Bash-it 3.2.0 allows local attackers to alter terminal state through a crafted pyproject.toml file. The barbuk theme reads requires-python with awk and appends the unfiltered value to PS1 through __prompt-command, causing OSC or CSI bytes to reach the terminal. The barbuk theme must be active and a user must enter the crafted directory; resulting effects depend on the terminal emulator and exclude a demonstrated service interruption.
