Terminal output manipulation via unsanitized dependency metadata
Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Terminal escape injection in Raine Revere npm-check-updates through 23.0.2 allows remote attackers to manipulate terminal output. The toDependencyTable path passes dependency package.json homepage and repository text into the CLI table without stripping escape or control characters. Exploitation requires a developer to check attacker-controlled dependency metadata with --format homepage or --format repo, after which the terminal interprets injected sequences and alters displayed output.
