Local privilege escalation via double free
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 9, 2026
Double free in Microsoft Windows Credential Guard allows local users with high privileges to elevate privileges on affected Windows systems. Credential Guard releases the same memory allocation twice, corrupting allocator state within the isolated credential-protection component. Exploitation requires local access and high privileges; successful use crosses a security boundary and grants higher local privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
