Authenticated message spoofing via unchecked notification sender
Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Authorization bypass in Rocket.Chat allows remote authenticated users to place ephemeral fake messages in another user's open chat. The WebSocket stream-notify-user handler accepts arbitrary notification bodies without verifying the sender, and the client UI trusts those body parameters when rendering a notification. Exploitation requires an authenticated account and user interaction through an already open chat; the resulting message is ephemeral rather than a persistent server-side post.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
