Server crash via stale certificate-slot count
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in OpenSSL TLS servers allows remote attackers to crash the server process via crafted TLS 1.3 handshakes. SSL_set_SSL_CTX() leaves the connection's certificate-slot count unchanged when a replacement context has more provider signature algorithms, so processing a peer-offered algorithm can read and write beyond the validity-flag array. Exploitation requires a server that switches contexts during the handshake and configures an affected provider algorithm; applications that never switch contexts are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=3.4.0 <3.4.8
- Affected versionversion=3.5.0 <3.5.9
