Terminal escape sequence injection in Canop broot 1.58.0 and earlier allows local users to manipulate a viewer's terminal via crafted filenames. The tree view converts OS-level file and directory names to strings in TreeLineBuilder::build and TreeLine::unprune and writes them after only newline replacement, so ESC, OSC, and CSI bytes pass through unsanitized. Exploitation requires only the ability to create a file or directory that another local user browses with broot; the resulting effect depends on the terminal emulator and can include clipboard writes or deceptive screen output.
