CVE-2026-72786Network attack vector

Administrator account takeover via mass-assignable password field

Published Aug 12, 2026 · Updated Aug 12, 2026

Improper authorization in Craft CMS 5.0.0-RC1 through 5.10.7 allows remote authenticated users to reset user passwords. The generic elements/save flow mass-assigns newPassword because UserPasswordValidator marks it safe without limiting the validation scenario, bypassing elevated-session verification in users/set-password. Control-panel access and edit users permission are required to reset another user’s password, enabling administrator account takeover.
