Stored XSS via innerHTML transcript username rendering
Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Stored XSS in the Discourse Rich Text Editor allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts through crafted chat transcripts. The editor assigns username quote metadata to a transcript header with innerHTML, turning embedded markup into executable DOM content. A victim must open the stored transcript in the Rich Text Editor; the script then runs in that user's browser context, affecting confidentiality and integrity.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
