Authenticated node crash via forged opaque identifier

Published Aug 13, 2026 · Updated Aug 13, 2026

Memory-allocation flaw in Elastic Elasticsearch allows remote authenticated users to crash an affected node through a forged opaque identifier. Elasticsearch decodes and deserializes the identifier before verifying cluster issuance, then trusts its embedded size to make an uncapped allocation outside memory controls. Any low-privileged account can send one small request in every affected configuration, exhausting heap and terminating the node process.
