Privilege escalation via crafted Vega visualization
Published Aug 13, 2026 · Updated Aug 13, 2026
CSRF in Kibana 8.19.0 through 8.19.19 and 9.0.0 through 9.4.4 allows remote authenticated users to escalate privileges. The Vega visualization renderer allows saved, attacker-controlled content to issue authenticated Kibana requests with the viewer's session. The attacker needs visualization-creation permission and a higher-privileged user to open the saved visualization; confidentiality and integrity are affected, not availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=8.19.0 <=8.19.19
