Authenticated command execution via unrestricted PHP upload
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
Unrestricted file upload in Cockpit CMS 2.6.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute OS commands through an uploaded PHP script. The asset upload endpoint accepts any extension because allowed_uploads defaults to a wildcard, then stores the uploaded file under a web-accessible path. Any authenticated account can place a PHP webshell that the server processes, granting command execution with the web service's OS privileges.
