Local command execution via shell-expanded filename
Published Apr 30, 2026 · Updated Apr 30, 2026
OS command injection in Pallets Click before 8.3.3 allows local users to execute commands when an application passes a crafted filename to click.edit(). The edit_files() method wraps each filename in double quotes, interpolates it into a string, and invokes subprocess.Popen with shell=True, allowing an embedded quote to escape the argument context. Exploitation requires a calling application to pass an attacker-controlled filename and a user to invoke an editor; Pallets disputes the CVE's validity.
