CVE-2026-72455

Kernel crash via uninitialized AppArmor audit pointer

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel AppArmor module allows local users to crash the system through a file-open audit path. When an aa_null dentry replacement leaves name unset, path_name() passes the uninitialized pointer through aa_audit_file() to audit_log_untrustedstring(), where strlen() dereferences it. A local low-privileged process must reach the AppArmor file-open audit path; the resulting supervisor page fault crashes the kernel and interrupts the host.
