Memory exhaustion via unreleased atomic direct-I/O pages
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Missing page release in Linux kernel 6.13 through 7.1.4 allows attackers to exhaust memory through a short atomic direct-I/O bio. In fs/iomap/direct-io.c, the REQ_ATOMIC size-mismatch path drops the bio reference without releasing or unbouncing pages already attached to the short bio. The public record does not state required privileges or whether exhaustion produces a hang, crash, or another service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
