Data loss via uncollected asynchronous O_SYNC writes
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Incorrect synchronization in Linux kernel netfs allows local users to disrupt writethrough collection with asynchronous O_SYNC writes. The writethrough path in fs/netfs/write_issue.c fails to set NETFS_RREQ_OFFLOAD_COLLECTION, so collection runs only at request completion and misses asynchronous O_SYNC writes. A local low-privileged user able to issue netfs O_SYNC writes can cause incomplete collection and associated data inconsistency or loss.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
