CVE-2026-72363

Local service interruption via locked writeback folio

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Denial of service in Linux kernel netfs allows local users to make the system unresponsive during low-memory writeback. In fs/netfs/write_issue.c, an ENOMEM exit from netfs_writepages leaves the current folio clean and locked before the terminal writeback_iter() call instead of redirtying and unlocking it. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access, memory pressure, and writeback through netfs; published scoring limits impact to reduced availability without confidentiality or integrity loss.
