CVE-2026-72303

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked notification size

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in Linux 7.0 through 7.1.4 allows local users to disclose or corrupt kernel memory via SOF notifications. The SOF IPC4 control-update path trusts num_elems without verifying event_data_size, so copying and channel-value parsing read beyond the notification buffer. An unprivileged local user needs ALSA control access on a SOF-equipped system; malformed updates can disclose heap data, corrupt control caches, or panic the kernel.
