Kernel memory disclosure via unchecked NTFS filename length
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel NTFS driver 7.1 through 7.1.4 allows remote attackers to disclose kernel memory or crash the host. ntfs_attr_find() and ntfs_external_attr_find() accept a resident $FILE_NAME whose value_length is smaller than file_name_length, causing name conversion or comparison to read past the MFT record copy. Triggering requires crafted NTFS content to be mounted and accessed locally or through an exported NFS or SMB share; kernel memory disclosure, host crash, or kernel compromise can result.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
