Filesystem-operation hangs via missed allocation-failure wakeup
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Denial of service in Linux kernel 7.1 through 7.1.4 allows remote attackers to hang NTFS operations through an exported volume. In get_nr_free_clusters(), a failed file_ra_state allocation returns before NVolFreeClusterKnown is set and vol->free_waitq is awakened, leaving callers blocked indefinitely. Reachability requires memory pressure during NTFS free-space initialization and a read-write-mounted volume; remote access additionally requires an NFS or SMB export.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
